An Illustrated Short History of Progress
by Ronald Wright, House of Anansi Press, 2006
This is the illustrated edition of the bestselling CBC Massey Lecture, A Short History of Progress. I was not only responsible for the design and layout, but also for art directing and researching the images used in the book. Many of the author's endnotes were incorporated as large visual 'manifestos' to give the reader another layer of information while reading the main text.
Artworks from Paul Gaugin, Edward Burtynsky and Anselm Kiefer were used in concert with historical photos, etchings and illustrations - everything from flint heads to Sumerian vases to satellite shots of earth.
